Superhooper Polypro Pair Giveaway

28 Jun

I absolutely adore my Superhooper polypro hoops…so when Lara offered to give away a PAIR to one of my readers, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spread the love!

Their new line of “sea glass” hoops immediately caught my eye. I LOVE the ocean…and these remind me of the time I’ve spent there. These colors are absolutely beautiful. They have now added yellow translucent as well…and I’m kind of in love with that one πŸ™‚

If you’re new to polypro hoops, you can read about my love for them here.

Look! My toes match my hoop! πŸ™‚ Everyone does that, right?

To win a PAIR of polypro hoops (your choice of 14 colors!)…

  • Leave me a comment and tell me why hooping makes you happy!

Optional extra entries (leave a separate comment for each one):

Hooping makes me happy because it allows me to feel and share positive energy with my body! It makes a not-so-talented dancer look fancy, and it’s a work-out!

    • Brianna Hutchinson June 28, 2012 at 6:49 pm #

I liked superhooper on facebook forever ago, posted on twitter, and shared on facebook.

Most importantly, Hooping does more than make me happy, it reminds me who I am. It puts me into a mental state of thinking about everything and not thinking at the same time. I was a dancer for 10 years, did competitions, recitals the full 9 yards. Once the dance career was over it was kind of like cutting off my legs, not to mention a long stent of family and friend disasters I kind of became lost and grumpy with everything. My best friend introduced me to hooping, and I fell in love all over again. Shortly after I started hooping, I found out I was having a beautiful little girl. (Believe me, it’s terribly hard to hoop with a basketball belly, so I had to give it up for a while) After I had Gracelen, I was very self concious. I’d gone from being a tiny balerina to someone I couldn’t recognize in the mirror. I started hooping again, and once more found myself and knowing that I had a sincere passion again, besides being mom of course, I felt like I had the entire world. Watching my 2 year old pick up my hoops and try to be like mommy brings a tear to my eye almost every time. Hooping is more than an activity I do, and this response to the giveaway is more than just a response, to be honest, it’s more just letting people know that there always is a purpose to things. If I didn’t have my daughter, my hoop and some good music I have no idea where life would have taken me. I work 6 days a week as a peon in a federal building wearing dress pants and hair pulled into a pony tail to make sure Graci has all the things I didn’t, and no one would ever know that I’m actually a rockstar when I walk in the door at home, put shoes on Gracelen and we go outside, let my hair down and dance around the yard. hooping gives me the feeling like holding Grace for the first time. I wouldn’t give either of them up for the world.

I love hooping because it has changed my life permanently forever in the best, positive of ways. Hooping has shown me the beauty in the now, letting go of negativity. Hooping has also given me purpose and my nitch in my local community as I am the hoop enthusiast of my area. I find no greater joy then getting people to get out of their comfort zone hoop it up and fall in love just like I did. Forever greatful to the hoop mama that showed me. I will be resposting this gracious polypro giveaway of my dreams on my own personal FB page and my 845 Hoop Tribe page. Happy Hooping to all!

It isn’t an exercise you dread doing. It is a dance form that I have grown to love. Performing has made me less shy and it has become my passion!

A little over three years ago I broke my ankle and had to have surgery. Much to my dismay the surgery didn’t work so well and I have to have a second surgery. Needless to say, my physical activity has been much curtailed. I can’t even walk my dog any more. I used to walk her 4 miles a day. Back in April I was trying to figure out what kind of exercise I could do that I would enjoy and not have to join a group or spend a lot of money on, and not stress the ankle too much. One evening a hula hoop popped into my mind. I remembered hooping as a kid and how fun and meditative it was. Long story short, I found some videos on youtube and was instantly in love and blown away! This is way more than the hooping of my childhood. My friends and co-workers think I’m crazy now. Not a whole lot of 51 year old women hooping in my neck of the woods. But I love it and am getting much better. Soon I hope to be good enough to introduce it to my community. I’d love to try the poly pro hoops!

Why do I love hooping? Hmm so many reasons lol. I entered the world of hooping 2 1/2 yrs ago through your blog;) I had just had a baby and needed to lose some weight and I hated exercising so I gave hooping a try. I ordered my first through Becky and fell in love. It gives me peace during times of craziness, it gave my family something new to do together, and my husband even enjoys playing with the hoop ( which is super HOT πŸ˜‰ ) lol. I just love the hoop and I’ve enjoyed sharing it with so many people.

i am in recovery for heroin addiction, i was addicted to opiates for ten years. i started hooping two years ago, while still hooked on drugs, but only waist hooping, never anything else. i cleaned up in january, and my hoops were there. i did more tricks in two weeks clean off drugs than in the previous two years strung out. i’ve been clean for almost six months, and i hoop everyday. it’s hard to put into words why hooping makes me happy. maybe the endorphins, the new friends i’ve made bc of it, the confidence i’ve found, but probably because it is helping me save my own life. XOXO p.s., i have liked superhooper, and will share the giveaway on FB. thank you for your consideration.

Hooping doesn’t just make me happy, it makes my soul soar. I can leave everything “outside” the hoop and just be myself, in that moment, inside my hoop. I let the world melt away and I let peace into my soul. I feel my body move and I love the movement and I let go of what society tells me about my body and I can realize my body is good, beautiful and whole in the hoop.

Sustained spinning took care of my chronic vertigo, fitness hooping complements my physical therapy, and the happiness it brings has really put my head back into place after all those medical problems.

Hooping makes me happy because it gives me the freedom and opportunity to step outside myself and away from everyday stresses! I have the ability to FREE myself completely and just become one with my movement and soul. Hooping has freed me from massive anxiety and negative thinking. Best. Gift. Ever. I don’t know where I would be without my hoop!

hooping makes me happy because when i’m spinning it helps me forget about everything around me and focus on the way my body moves. It gives me a happy feeling the first time I nail a new trick. Hooping is the only form of exercise that I actually enjoy and have fun doing. It makes me happy when i pause out of flow to see that there are people watching me smiling in amazement because they have never seen hooping as a dance before. Hooping has helped rid my depression, stress, and anxieties, when I hoop the circle feels like its an extension of my body…& that makes me happy.

I love hooping because its a great experience to share with my children, and its something my friends and I like to do together. It brings us closer and creates a feeling of community with those in my circle (heehee circle… get it? ;p). I started makign hoops while my son was in the hospital for chemo and I found it was a great way to channel my worries and frustrations into something positive and after a while it made my general outlook on everythig else, including my sons health, a lot more positive. Hooping make me feel like I can do anything, even if that something is hard. Like learning a difficult trick, sometimes in life you gotta keep trying, and not give up. You gotta keep calm, and hoop on! ❀

Hooping makes me happy in so many ways. Its a friend, a security blanket, a toy, a tool for expression. I love to just dance and flail and spin freeeeee. Before I knew hooping, joy always seemed elusive, out of reach, something I had been chasing. Within the circle, I found that light and joy inside me. Flow, bliss, self acceptance. I also got rid of a lot of extra weight and I gain muscle, balance, and coordination every day. The hoop made life zesty for me πŸ˜€ O<3!!!

  145. tosteph June 28, 2012 at 11:34 am #

I used to think hooping made me happy because it was exercise and exercise is an activity that makes one feel good. When i started hooping I would bring my hoops EVERYWHERE. going on hikes with friends I would bring it just so when we stop for a rest I could get some hooping in. It took a big change in my life to realize why I really loved hooping so much. 2 months ago I got my first hit of the reality of life. Some things happen that you don\’t ever expect and can never brace yourself for, and your life changes forever. In all of this I realized why I love hooping so much. The bad things in life you can\’t control but when I\’m hooping that\’s one thing in my life I can control. No matter what, the hoop is only affected by me. I completely control where it goes on my body and when you accomplish a new trick you are gaining more and more control. It makes me happy body and mind because when I hoop i\’m so concentrated in my own little hoop world I forget everything else going on. And everyone Ive met that hoops has always been so friendly, hoopers are the happiest people! also, fb shared.

I love hooping because it takes my stress away. I negotiate real estate contracts and being “on call” for my agents drives me insane most days, but when I get inside that hoop; nothing else matters. I literally loose myself in the rhythm & flow and my whole day melts away. I also love the reaction of people who have never seen a hooper or know what fun hoop dance can be. I’ve had several agents in my office buy hoops from me & we go out in the parking lot at lunch to learn some new tricks *for them, more a mental break for me ;)* I picked up my hoop 3 years ago and will never look back! ❀

Hooping, how do I love thee? let me count the ways….its one of the first things that grabbed me long enough to catch up with the learning curve and reap the results of practice, its inspired me to emote through motion, everyone I share it with picks up the excitement too, once you’ve got a hoop–its free!, my heart pumps & I break a sweat with a smile, I’ve learned to accept imperfection & gained persistence, it looks beautiful, its great for all kinds of folks, kids are fascinated by it, it boosts self-esteem, its a mind-body-soul connection, it goes perfectly with music, theres always new ways to challenge oneself and explore the movement, it can be done solo or bring people together..I LOVE HOOPING!

People generally would describe me as timid, or shy. But from within the hoop it seems as though I am someone completely different. I am free of insecurities and worry, I can let loose and show people I am more than just a girl with a tendency to distance herself from others , this is MY way of ‘opening up’ to people.

Hooping has taught me how to love myself, and I will forever be grateful for that. That’s why hooping makes ME happy! ❀

Why hooping makes me happy? That’s a hard question to answer, but here I go… My father was diagnosed with stage 4 NHL in February 2011. My mother struggled to stay sane, my sister started taking Prozac, and I started hooping. My dad watched me hoop for hours, and we both felt so much joy every time I finally got a new move down. Hooping makes me happy because I can take a simple plastic circle and turn it into hours of enjoyment for me and whatever “audience” I have. The second I touch my hoop I feel lighter, my worries seem smaller, and I know that everything will be okay. Living alone was a hard transition for me. Hooping provides me with that sense of community that I desperately needed and my hoops are always around to keep me entertained.

I didn’t realize how emotional I would get about this! I’ve totally teared up several times.

PS: After a stem transplant, my dad is cancer free now!

I have extreme fibromyalgia and weight issues… Being on disability leaves me not much income especially being a single mother of 2… Hooping is SO great for me even with my disability… I have lost pounds and inches and gained new confidence and many new friends… Hoppers are such a great community of such great people! I find that when I am in extra pain or extra stress my hoop is my best friend… Never judges me. Just flows with me and helps me move past my issue. Doesn’t even get mad at me when I drop her. πŸ˜‰ I thank the stars every day for bringing hooping into my life… My girls and I have fell in love with hooping together. They will grow into fabulous well centered people with a lot of that owing to the hoop. I love how aligned and care free hooping makes me feel. I truly have never felt so wonderful ‘exercising’. We as a small family would appreciate and love to own such beautiful hoops… We can only imagine πŸ˜‰ thank you for such a neat give away opportunity! Now I must go pick up my hoop! πŸ˜‰ ps… I have liked super hoppers on fb for awhile now… No twitter account. Hope that does not disqualify me. ❀

Hooping makes me happy because I am TERRIBLE at it… I am one of those people who will strictly stick with things in my comfort zone, things that I know I am good at. When I pick up my hoop, I check my pride, ego, and my chains on the outside of that circle. I am free my hoop… Free to fail, to dance, to let go of myself. The ball and chain of perfection is unlocked and I feel more alive than ever. I no longer care whether or not I will be a SaFire, that is not my goal, my goal is to just do it, to try, to hope for improvement, but not demand it of myself. There are no time limits to master certain things, no restraints. It is simply my wild heart and my crazy hoop, and I love it.

hooping makes me happy for so many reasons i cannot pick just one! I smile from the inside out when I’m hooping and I don’t even notice until my face hurts. I have met so many new friends while hooping from all over the place. I went through cancer and hooping has truly helped me get back into a hobby that’s not too rough on my joints, even though I’m in my early 20’s, I have bone problems so it’s great for my body and not painful. It’s brought me and my friends closer together, and my Grandpa peps up when I visit back home and show him what I can do which is awesome since he isn’t too mobile now. Hooping is so great for so many things and I plan to use it in my major and throughout my career as a social worker πŸ™‚ hoop love!

A hula hoop makes everyone smile. I bring my hoops with me everywhere and I show others how to hula hoop and the laughter and joy it brings myself and everyone else is just infectious! Today I brought some hoops to the beach with me and in a matter of minutes I had a bunch of people laughing and giggling inside some hoops (guys included!) Hooping is something that I found online and fell in love with. It makes me happy when Im upset, its fun, and its always challenging my mind and body to try new things inside and outside of my hoop. I feel like hooping made me a more outgoing person, and certainly more in love with my body. And of course, I have met the most AMAZING people through hooping. The hoop community is just filled with sweet, amazing people who will go out of their way to help you even if your a complete stranger and you’ve met them for the first time. With a world that a lot of things are happening in, a lot of negative things, its nice to meet great genuine people and meet them by doing something that makes everyone smile and laugh!

Hooping makes me happy because it gives me a chance to just “be” … just me and my hoop, with or without music, I find it really relaxes me. I take as many hoop breaks as I can each day. Thanks for the chance to win these wonderful hoops!

Must there be a quantifiable reason why hooping makes me happy? I’m not certain I could begin to articulate how, for me, stepping within those sacred circles is quintessential bliss. However I do know that it is, and hooping does make me happy. It is simply magic that way.

Not only did I share this on Fb, but I also wanna throw in my two cents on why I hoop. Hooping is my release. If I’ve had a bad day, hooping instantly erases it. If I’ve had a good day, hooping only makes it better.

I love everything about hooping. Learning to hoop has been such a fun filled journey. Nothing beats putting on some good music and just getting into my own flow and space. Oooh, Sara! This is an exciting giveaway. Hooping makes me happy because…
+It’s so accessible – all I need is some space to spin.
+It’s creative and allows me to express myself.
+It’s the best form of meditation/prayer ever.
+It’s fun to do alone or with others.
    +It’s really good exercise.

Hooping is something I loved as a kid. You inspired me to pick up the hoop again. It’s great exercise, fun, and its an activity I also do with my kids.

  246. emily June 28, 2012 at 7:49 pm #

wow – so many great stories about why hooping matters to so many people.

    I hoop because

    a) I’m able to enjoy the process of learning something new. There are challenges everyday and I love being able to pick up my hoop, try a new trick that I’d thought I’d never be able to possibly do, practice and practice and eventually get it DOWN! hehe. That gives me so many rewards. Accomplishing something you never thought possible

    b) I also hoop for pain management – was diagnosed with a tumor in my left shoulder years ago, and was prescribed pain killers which did nothing except numb my brain and leave me in more pain! With hooping, as well as alternative remedies such as visiting the chiropractor once in a while, I’m able to move my shoulder more freely. My mobility in my shoulder used to be so restricted – leaving me unable to lift my arm and keep it above my head for more than a moment without it leaving me in agony. After I discovered hooping, learning tricks such as passing it from elbow to elbow – it stretches and I can often feel the clicks of my muscles and joints loosening up. Hooping has saved my life and kept me free from taking those horrible pain killers – which do nothing except numb you to the pain, rather than solving the problem.

    c) I hoop because it makes me feel beautiful. I often saw girls hooping at festivals and thought – wow – they look so beautiful, I wish I could do that. And well here I am, only a few months into my hooping practice but already I’ve taken my hoop to Glade festival and have had comments saying that I’m mesmerizing.

I’ll share on my fb page AMPLITUDE which promotes talent, good vibes and positivity. And twitter.

Good luck and much love. x

Hooping makes me happy because I love the process of learning. Everyday I am excited at the progress I made from the day before, when a move I’ve been trying to learn that’s given me bruises all of a sudden clicks, I smile ear to ear. I have bought hoops for a dozen friends and family, and introduced hooping to a dozen more just by my pure joy and love of it. The exercise aspect was a surprise bonus! Since the day I saw those elegant women twisting inside their hoop a deep connection has grown. Whilst inside my dear hoop I have moved to so many different tunes and seasons. I have never been more grateful of an inanimate object. I have tapped into a special part of myself due to hooping, and the people who I have shared this amazing hobby with. It is a physical, social, spiritually activity that can be shared and enjoyed by many.

I have been reading your blog (Walk Slowly) for years. It’s been so wonderful to read and see the evolution of you as a woman and your family. It is so inspiring for me to see you embrace life in the way you do. With joy and commitment and with a sense of freedom.
It was so fun to stumble upon this other blog of yours and see the new adventure you are on and again, how committed to it you are! Wow! What amazing experiences you have had with this hooping. From Montana, to California to Colorado. Where I live I see gals hooping but not in this way. I have always had an aversion to it bc at music shows they stand in front blocking the view for everyone else and it seems mainly to look provocative. So to see the art and sport of it on your blog was SWEET! I wish there were classes, workshops, circus oriented, fire performing, get together’s such as I have witnessed here, in my neck of the woods! IN any case I am sold! I love dancing, I love fitness and seeing all the faces full of joy on this blog has made me want to try my hand at it. Then I can maybe start traveling to some of these events. So I would love hoops! My daughter and I can get to work in our backyard!!!!! How should I get started? Any instructional videos?
Thank you for living your life with such authenticity and passion. I am touched by it.

Hooping makes me happy because it’s making me into the person I WANT to be. It doesn’t matter that I may not be great or good in comparison to others but that’s what I love. It’s an expression of me and hooping has allowed me to be more comfortable with that. I have met so many amazing people that wouldn’t have entered my life or been so inspiring to me had I not tried something that [at the time] was slightly out of my comfort zone. I can combine my love of music with hooping and both have been something that I LOVE to introduce other people to and see them enjoy both as much as I have. I’ve become healthier, more aware of my own body, more centered in my life, and overall so much happier because I found something to be passionate about that allowed me to re-discover my other passions in life. I love swimming and have been a lifeguard and swim instructor for years now, but when I saw the new tinted hoops I decided that either way I was going to get some. πŸ™‚

I have just recently taken up hooping after a good long time of watching other people smile and enjoying the moment they are hooping. But even though I’m a newbie, I love the creativity, and being able to let myself loosen up and just be free in the moment that comes with hooping.

Hooping makes me happy because it’s just FUN! I think it has something to do with the fact that it’s such an accessible thing – anyone can do it. It also brings back childhood memories of being swimsuit clad and barefoot and at the cottage, hoopin’ away like a fool and not caring at all what anyone thought of me.

I have 4 children. When you have kids, they are a blessing and give you a new meaning in life but you do end up losing yourself in that mix. I started hooping as an activity I could do for and by myself to relax, gain confidence and an exercise. what really happened is that it became a connection between me and the children. They love to hula hoop with me, we got sold our living room furniture and put up a big dance mirror so we can have “dance parties” in the house complete with a disco ball and boob box. I teach hooping at their summer camps and schools, I love seeing them be so proud of their Mom when the other kids think I’m cool LOL. What started as an activity for me to “find myself and get time by myself actually turned into a family time activity and I am so thankful for that.

I would love a pair of the new sea glass poly pro hoops. My 7 year old daughter and I hoop together all the time and I know she would just adore to have a matching hoop to her mommy!! Hooping is our out-lit, our escape and joy in life. Never have either of us felt so happy or good about ourselves as we do when we hoop. Right now we just use wal-mart hoops, and they are plenty good enough, but who wouldnt love a gorgeous colored polypro?? I “liked” Superhooper long ago, and will continue to plug this great hooping site in our comunity no matter what!! Thanks for this fun opportunity!!

  331. Jami Doria June 30, 2012 at 9:52 am #

Wow!! what an incredible giveaway!.. I am jumping out of my skin with excitement at the opportunity to win poly pro hoops of those delicious colors! Well, let’s see.. why do I love hooping- let me count the waysss! First of all my life will never be the same again- yes! all because of this circle of plastic. sounds crazy but I know you all relate! At 35 years of age (Im 37 now!) it reawakened the spirit that I had always known existed inside of me. All I needed was the right outlet to let it shine… and my dear friend showed me the hoop and I never turned back. I have two children, I’m a former Kindergarten teacher and now I run my own Hoop business called Hip-Mama Hula Hoops πŸ™‚ yes, I’m the mama and I think I’m pretty hip, if I do say so myself.. plus it sure does move those hips!! hehe.. love a play on words. And so I digress… Hooping! It has combined everything i love about life- dance & music, free flowing arts, crafting (of course I make hoops), teaching, laughing, living and meeting the most beautiful souls that share this like-spirited way of life! What more could i ask for?? I feel I now have a special identidy that is true to my heart and spirit and it defines me, just as my children do… it’s a part of me. It’s beautiful and I love me more because of the hoop. thank you for this opportunity. And happy hooping! peace.

Hooping makes me happy because it has helped me become who I was meant to be. Hooping entered during a major life transition and helped me learn to surrender to the process, to release self judgement, to find authenticity, embrace radical self expression, to become one with my inner dancer and to seek out ways to live a playful creative life. One of the most important ways hooping makes me happy isthat it has connected me with the most beautiful open, loving and supportive community. I honestly couldnt imagine where i would be without them. Hoopers are my tribe and I love them.

I’m new new new to hooping – as of this morning in the past year I have lost 85 lbs and last Monday decided it was time to add fun to my routine … So I went to a class .. Hardest thing EVER to walk in the door with everyone who knew what they were doing and knew each other and were all looking so great at it .. I’m working on just keeping the hoop up around my waist more than 30 revolutions – but am having so much fun doing it. .. I may never be as graceful as they all are but if I can learn one thing a month and master it and have fun doing it I will be happy. I bought one hoop already that I love and am already thinking about the next one – I see a serious hoop addiction in my future – so it would be a big help towards that if I won …

  335. Bunny Hale June 30, 2012 at 11:44 am #

I’m a writer so I always have a lot of distracting “noise” going on inside of my head. When I slip those hoops around me though…when I hear that all too familiar SWISH SWISH of the hoop slicing through the air…well, the noise dies down and my soul is breathlessly quiet. I treasure the silence, the happiness it give me, and the feeling I get knowing I can finally dance without embarrassment. That’s why I love hooping. πŸ™‚

I love hooping because it’s strangely more organic than any kind of dance I’ve done previously. I can relax and trust my body and the hoop to create something wonderful with the music. It’s fleeting times of grace and relaxation. The hoop is more like a portal into another state of mind.

And I liked Super Hooper on fb. πŸ™‚

All of my girlfriends are amazing hoopers, its a connection. I love flow arts and object manipulation…. when you learn a new trick you get a rush flowing through your veins. I feel like a wizard when I play with my polypro sometimes. *hehe

I love hooping, because it has completely changed my life– for the good! I love my sacred circle. I often times say; “worrying is a waste of imagination…My hoop is my instrument. Let’s jam!” And, I think that accurately depicts my life now. When I am faced with a hard emotion, or a difficult situation I will often say just let me hoop on it. And, it works. πŸ™‚

Julio the Hula Hoop was my very best friend. He came into my life about 3 months ago and changed it forever. It was love at first site. He taught me balance, he taught me how to relax, he taught me coordination, he never let me down! he loved the same music as I do, and he encourged me to explore more. He brought several awesome souls into my life. He was everything to me.

Last week I was at Camp Coldbrook Music & Arts festival with Julio. We had a blast! Spent hours and hours together! The moment I would take a break and put my Julio down someone was asking to use him. He didn’t mind. He loved people just as much as i do. I got hungry and left the tent and left Julio with a stranger. an hour later I came back for him and found him laying by the trash can completely injured and mangled by a dog. Typing this is actually bringing me to tears. I felt like someone died in my family. I didn’t have Julio for long but man did he know the way to my heart.

I have to think that everything happens for a reason and Julio’s death was maybe a sign telling me to step up my game and give other hoops a chance. plenty of hoops in the sea right? :/ If the two poly’s made there way into my life I would treat them with as much respect and love as I did Julio. Viva la hula hoops!

I Liked Superhooper! Thanks for sharing them with your readers too! The sea colors are gorgeous! Hooping allows me to let go. If i’m having a bad day I go out and hoop concentrating on that and that only seems to allow me the time I need to get my head back straight, I love how free it makes you feel, and how many cool people I have meet and learned about life from because of hooping …BUT MY FAVORITE part of it, is sharing it with my 6yr old son. Man he rocks and sometimes WAY better at tricks than me, and to think that I helped influence his love for his hoop makes it even better. I love sitting in the hammock watching him dance around with it, and hearing him say “Mom, watch my new hoopdy trick”. ❀

Hooping! It makes me happy because I’ve put on about 40lbs over the past two years and I struggle with my sense of identity from it. But since I’ve picked up my hoop and moved, I’ve allowed myself to be IN my body again. I can feel it moving and doing wonderful things. I even made my first home video a couple of weeks ago. I was terrified to watch it, to see this new body and the ways that it now moves, but you know what!?!? It was hot! I felt like I could see my body the way my husband sees it. Still beautiful, still able, and still totally sensual. This hoop allows me to hide when I’m nervous and be seen when I’m brave. It is an activity that I absolutely love and have stuck with while I learn at a fairly slow pace. I haven’t given up on it. It’s teaching me commitment. Mmmmm. LOVE the hoop!

  399. MJ July 3, 2012 at 10:57 am #

Hooping makes me happy because it makes me feel beautiful and graceful (even when I’m not). It’s hard to be angry inside a hoop, and sharing hooping with others makes me even happier. No one can resist smiling when hooping. I love to hand a hoop to a stranger and say, “Here, try it.” Usually, I meet with resistance, and they’ll say something about how they’ve never been able to hoop before. And I just explain that they’ve been using the wrong hoops, so I hand them one of my giant big-girl hoops and let them have at it. The joy they radiate when they surprise themselves with their own ability to hoop is infectious!

I love hooping because it gives me a boost in confidence when I learn a new trick and makes me feel like I’m doing something good for myself for once. I’ve been battling a combination of Anorexia and Bulimia and I feel like my only safe place is inside the hoop. I also have sever Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, an anxiety and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (or “imagined ugliness”) and any thrill I can get, I take. I can’t enjoy what most people do such as movies and tv, as it sometimes reminds me of the body I DON’T have, so that’s why I like to distract myself with hoop dance because I don’t focus on my problems, I focus on what I’m doing or learning.

I’m still new to it, as I only started a month ago, but I would LOVE to improve and learn more tricks, but find it hard, as I am still using a beginner hoop and it is heavy and large.>_< as you could imagine it's hard to maneuver.
