About
Hi. My name is Sara and I’m addicted to hooping.
The very first time I saw someone hooping, I was completely mesmerized. I stumbled across a YouTube video of a girl who went by the name of “SaFire” and I knew…in an instant, that I HAD to learn to do it too. That was a few years ago…and my desire to learn just kept getting pushed onto the back burner. In the spring of 2009, Bella and I got matching mother/daughter hoops made, and while Bella totally rocked it, I couldn’t seem to find time to figure it out…beyond just waist hooping.
Fast forward to April 2010. I finally decided that IT WAS TIME! I broke out my HoopDance DVD and watched a million YouTube videos. We went to HomeDepot and bought tubing to make our own hoops and ordered tape online. This was all during the NüRVers rally, and luckily, there were several other adventurous souls who were willing to hoop it up with me. One of my new friends helped me learn a trick that I had been working on…and once I got it, I was ecstatic! After that, it was like riding a bike…it just felt very easy and natural instead of awkward and clunky. Since then, I have loved finding new movements to try…you can never have a boring day when you have a hoop!
There is a wonderful community of hoopers around the world and they offer endless inspiration and encouragement for all those who want to learn. I am hoping to add to that community by sharing little bits of that inspiration that I discover on my own journey. Oh, and I live in the hooping mecca…Colorado. Come visit!
Happy Hooping!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the new hooping blog. LOVE LOVE LOVE your dress – I have the same one, in purple also 🙂
This is such a great pic of yourself and the hoop! I really like your dress, where is it from? Have fun and enjoy hooping!
I too was inspired by SaFire! (Are you on Hoop City?)
It’s so cool to find others who have been inspired by the same person and are addicted as well.
p.s. I ❤ your dress as well. Purple is my favorite color. 😀
I started regularly hooping in Jan 2010 and after going to my first hoop camp, became addicted. However, unlike many of the other hoopers, I am not a performer and do not aim to be one. I am a business woman who picked up hooping to express myself, stay in shape and adopt a sport that can carry me into my 50’s and beyond without getting “too” injured. As a hobby, I now also started teaching continuing education hooping classes. Thank you for creating this blog and have fun in your hoop journey! 🙂
Girl!!! So glad I stumbled across your blog! I shared it with all the hoopers in the Twin Cities (Minnesota) on Hoop Twin Cities on Facebook. You should join us!

ALWAYS happy to spread the hoop love! What a small world huh? Yes indeed, let us know the next time you are in the Cities and we’ll play!
I wish I knew what the 30 days was. I too missed the Alicia facebook thing and I am going to need something to help me get back in the flow once I get my spondylosis under control. I haven’ t been able to touch the hoop in almost a year now, and after over 2 years of hooping. Love this blog.
Hi Sara, I love the site. It is so nice to see someone still addicted to the things they love and exercising at the same time.
I am going to try what you do but may take me a long long time. x

I will be traveling to the Austin area in the next few weeks. I love to hoop dance. Are there any spots in Austin I should check out for hooping?
Beautiful story! I actually Hula Hoop to and funny enough I am learning to become a hula hoop dance teacher through Safire! The program is amazing! I actually have Schizoaffective disorder but I want to inspire people who do have mental health issues and let them know whether it is hooping or something else they are doing. That they can accomplish anything they dream of! Sure I struggle daily but I keep on going. 🙂 your story made me smile. Love it! Keep on at it girl!
